Information Warfare: russian fakes for March 30th 2022

Millions of Ukrainians are encountering Russian propaganda every day. It spreads through TV, radio, media, social networks and by word of mouth. To defeat the enemy, we must fight it on all fronts. To this end, we have prepared a daily compilation of Russian fakes.

Today, the russian information space is dominated by the narratives about the russo-Ukrainian negotiations in Turkey. Russian officials are trying to calm down the populace, saying that it is better to win through diplomacy, than through warfare. The militaristic hysteria that had spread during the last weeks is being suppressed. The Russian government is slowly walking back its demands for payments for gas in rubles after European countries refused to pay. The official statements concerning the war are creating a notion that all of russian military failures were a part of a plan, and that plan is close to success.

Main fake narratives:

• The Ukrainian army is destroyed, victory is close

• World is blind to Ukrainian war crimes

• Sanctions against Russia are destroying Europe

• Ukrainian biolabs

• Russophobia is dominating the world

FAKE: Ukraine had created a fake history for its children

Source:

Disproof:

In essence, russian propagandists are complaining that the Ukrainian education system has removed all remnants of soviet propaganda from its books and is presenting its pupils with facts. Russian propaganda is using this as another proof of “Nazis in Ukraine”: by their logic, if you are not praising USSR, you are a Nazi.

The “impossibility to know Yuri Gagarin” argument is absolute nonsense, since two of the most important people in soviet space program, those who made Gagarin flight possible - Korolev and Glushko, are both Ukrainians, and there are entire sections about them in Ukrainian history books.

FAKE: Ukrainian coat of arms is a Nazi symbol

Source:

Disproof:

Russian propagandists will stop at nothing to accuse Ukraine of Nazism. You don’t need to search far to find that the “trident”, as it is used by Ukraine, is one of the emblems of Volodymyr the Great. The coat of arms of Ukraine has no relations to Germany or racism.

FAKE: Chernihiv city market was robbed and burned down by the Territorial Guard

Source:

Disproof:

Russia is trying to accuse Ukraine of russian war crimes once again. The State Emergency Service had reported that on the night of March 30 Chernihiv city market was set on fire by a russian artillery strike. Photos from the market show clear signs of shelling (see pictures below). The accusations of a robbery are especially cynical - russian are doing everything they can to discredit Ukraine, even while destroying Ukrainian cities.

FAKE: Satanists have joined the fight against russia

Source:

Disproof:

Russians are trying everything to denigrate Ukraine, so it's not a surprise they are using religion. Fairy tales about satanists that are casting dark rituals to harm russia will fill any sane person with laughter.

FAKE: US wants to make EU into its regional economic appendage

Source:

Disproof:

The EU is the second-largest world economy. Four of the wealthiest EU countries have, individually, GDPs larger than russia. Seven out of the top ten countries with the highest freedom of press in the world are European. Europe is both the economic and democratic center of the world. EU and NATO countries are tied by economic, social and military treaties, but the idea that the US could control the western world is preposterous. Russian propaganda is trying to convince its audience that European countries are weak and slavish, distracting them from the horrible state of their own country.

FAKE: Ukrainian Odin military unit is named after nazi-pagan god

Source:

Disproof:

Russian propaganda is, once again, relying on a poor education of their audience. Odin is not a god of the “ultra-right mythology”, he is a main deity of the Scandinavian pantheon. To warp an entire European region’s cultural heritage just to accuse Ukraine of Nazism is a new low for russian propaganda.

Information Warfare: russian fakes for March 28th 2022

Millions of Ukrainians are encountering Russian propaganda every day. It spreads through TV, radio, media, social networks and by word of mouth. To defeat the enemy, we must fight it on all fronts. To this end, we have prepared a daily compilation of Russian fakes.

Today, the russian information space is dominated by the narratives about the Ukrainian war crimes and the effect sanctions have on Europe. There are attempts to “water down” the understanding of war crimes in Ukraine on the international level. The official statements concerning the war are creating a notion that the Ukrainian army is almost destroyed, and there’s only one little push left – the “liberation of Donbas”. There is a tendency to repress and hunt dissenters, who are already labeled as “enemy of the people”.

Main fake narratives:

· Ukrainian soldiers committing war crimes

· Sanctions against russia are destroying Europe

· Ukrainian biolabs

· russophobia is dominating the world

FAKE: There was a secret prison under the Mariupol airport

Source:

Disproof:

Once again we see baseless accusations of cruelty and torture against AFU, all while russia commits countless war crimes. russian propaganda is making every effort to deflect the world’s attention from russian crimes, mask them, or pin them on someone else. As russian actions become more brutal, more such fakes will appear.

FAKE: AFU Commander-in-Chief was caught lying

Source:

Disproof:

In his address (see picture below) CiC Valerii Zaluzhnyi had denied the claims about Ukrainian soldiers' cruelty towards the prisoners of war, and called the supposed video proof that had appeared on the Internet fake. Presidential adviser, Oleksiy Arestovych, did not confirm the validity of the video, instead stating that an investigation will be conducted, and if the incident shown on the video is found to be real, the perpetrators would be punished. Both statesmen assured the public that the AFU are adhering to the norms of international humanitarian law.

FAKE: The West “does not give a damn” about sovereign rights of other countries

Source:

Disproof:

Such statements are quite ironic. Especially coming from a representative of a country that regularly breaks the sovereign rights of their neighbors, starts wars on their land, threatens the world with nukes, ignores international rules and laws, kills the enemies of the state both at home and abroad, and is one of the world’s leaders at violating human rights.

FAKE: The goal of the war against Ukraine is to protect people from genocide

Source:

Disproof:

On March 16 UN International Court had ruled that russia “shall immediately suspend the military operations that it commenced on 24 February.” The court’s ruling – the first such verdict handed down by the ‘world court’ since the russian invasion began – is in response to a suit filed by Ukraine on 27 February, accusing russia of manipulating the concept of genocide to justify its military aggression.

The Court had deemed russian accusations of genocide against Ukraine baseless and a distortion of the concept of genocide. russia had ignored the Court's ruling.

The Ukrainian military burns enemy equipment and recaptures the Kherson region

Ukrainian military recaptures Kherson region. The Armed Forces have already recaptured several villages, set fire to vehicles - several burned infantry fighting vehicles, a broken checkpoint, and lined up cars. Some are still rusting in the fields, some are already being scrapped, TSN reports.

There is actually a lot of burnt equipment in these fields. "In a few days, we have moved 15 kilometers forward," the military said. At the same time, without communication, electricity, food, medicine and even water, looted shops, destroyed houses - this is how villages in the occupied Kherson region live today. Residents of Vysokopillya beg for help. They have been under occupation for two weeks.

Information Warfare: russian fakes for March 26th 2022

Millions of Ukrainians are encountering Russian propaganda every day. It spreads through TV, radio, media, social networks and by word of mouth. To defeat the enemy, we must fight it on all fronts. To this end, we have prepared a daily compilation of Russian fakes.

Today, russian information space is dominated by the supposed discord between western nations and the ineffectiveness of sanctions against russia. The official statements concerning the war have become more moderate, a lot of attention is given to the missile attacks against Ukraine and the supposed russian humanitarian aid. There is a tendency to showcase the supposed worldwide “russophobia” – Russia is attempting to show itself as a victim.

Main fake narratives:

· Ukrainian biolabs

· Civilians held hostage by nationalists

· Ukrainian refugees are bringing crime

· Whataboutism: there were other wars, but nobody reacted to them like they are reacting now

· Russophobia is dominating the world

FAKE: Ukraine was close to making a “dirty bomb”

Source:

Disproof:

russia had repeatedly accused Ukraine of attempting to create atomic weapons in the past, and now, once again, is using this narrative to justify the invasion. Creating a “dirty bomb” on Ukrainian soil would hurt Ukraine the most. According to the russian propaganda, one of the villains in this insidious “anti-russian” plot is IAEA – an international organization with 173 countries as its members. Russia is a founding member of IAEA. Truly, we can see the “World vs Russia” narrative in action.

FAKE: Nazis have mined a dam in Odessa

Source:

Disproof:

The fakes about Ukrainian Nazis are one of the ways Russia attempts to justify the war in Ukraine to its internal audience. The Governor of Odessa Oblast had refuted this fake and called for the citizens of Odessa and the region to be vigilant and not trust information from questionable sources, and to notify SSU of facts of dissemination of such fakes.

Russian propaganda often uses such fakes to accuse Ukraine of russian acts of terrorism.

Information Warfare: russian fakes for March 24-25th, 2022

Millions of Ukrainians are encountering Russian propaganda every day. It spreads through TV, radio, media, social networks and by word of mouth. To defeat the enemy, we must fight it on all fronts. To this end, we have prepared a daily compilation of Russian fakes.

FAKE: Security Council vote on Russian resolution showed who really cares about humanitarian situation in Ukraine

Source:

Disproof:

Russia’s UN resolution didn’t mention the fact that Russia itself had started the war and caused a humanitarian catastrophe in Ukraine. This is why all the members of the UN Security Council, apart from China, abstained from the vote. Russia had proposed such “humanitarian resolutions” in the past, concerning conflicts that Russia itself had started, so when NATO countries on the council abstained or voted against, Russia could accuse them of indifference.

An alternative resolution with full assessment of the situation in Ukraine will be recommended shortly.

FAKE: Poland is planning to capture western Ukraine under the guise of a peacekeeping mission

Source:

Disproof:

This is an old fake that Russia uses to sow discord between Ukraine and Poland. Poland is one of the greatest allies Ukraine has in this war. Poles supply weapons and supplies, house Ukrainian refugees and are the greatest lobbyists of Ukrainian interests in NATO and EU.

It is obvious that such cooperation between Ukraine and Poland frightens Russia, so their propagandists are attempting to create opposition among Ukrainians to the idea of peacekeepers on the Ukrainian land. These fakes also appease the russian populace, who see the mounting western support of Ukraine.

FAKE: The West have no alternative information sources

Source:

Disproof:

Russia is mirroring its internal situation onto the rest of the world. According to the World Press Freedom Index, out of the top 10 ranked countries, 7 are “western”. Russia, by the way, is ranked 150 out of 180. Its “neighbors” are Venezuela, Congo, and Bangladesh.

It is not “Russophobia” that is dominating the world, as the russian propaganda is attempting to prove, it is a healthy, though a bit late, reaction to the russian war crimes.

FAKE: Ukraine was making medals “For Liberation of Crimea”

Source:

Disproof:

We can clearly see that russian propagandists didn’t manage to learn how to properly write in Ukrainian. There is a mistake in the spelling of “By the order of the President of Ukraine”. There is a misspelling of the name of the President: he is Volodymyr Oleksandrovych, not Volodymyr Aleksandrovych as written on the fake medal’s certificate.

FAKE: A bridge to Chernihiv was destroyed by Ukrainian forces

Source:

Disproof:

Russia is attempting to accuse Ukraine of russian war crimes once again. Russian forces had bombed the bridge to Chernihiv on March 23, cutting the only way to resupply the city and to evacuate civilians. Russia is attempting to create in Chernihiv, which they had failed to capture, the same situation as they did in Mariupol: the city is getting starved and systematically destroyed.

FAKE: Southern regions of Ukraine are switching to rubles

Source:

Disproof:

The information about the russian plans to switch the occupied territories to rubles had first appeared on March 22. The invaders are attempting to repeat the DPR and LPR scenario on the occupied territories, but are met with the resistance from the locals. The Mayor of Kherson had stated that rubles are out of the question for now. For rubles to enter circulation, the region must be recognized as occupied, and all treasury accounts frozen.

FAKE: Ukraine had planned the attack against Donbass

Source:

Disproof:

We see the return of the narrative about the “Ukraine’s imminent invasion of Donbass”. The documents shown as evidence are the same as in previous fakes, and have no mentions of any invasion plans. We can interpret this as yet another attempt to justify the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Be advised: Russia is waging a full-scale information war against Ukraine. There are multitudes of new fakes swarming through the mass-media every day. To protect you and your family, be sure to obtain and share your information only from official sources.

Operational information on 06.00, 19.03.2022 regarding the russian invasion

The twenty-fourth day of the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people to the russian military invasion began.
The situation and the nature of the actions of the defense forces have not changed significantly during the last day. The Armed Forces of Ukraine and other units of the Defense Forces continued to strike at groups of enemy troops trying to hold the captured frontiers.
Ukraine's anti-aircraft missile forces and fighter jets hit 12 enemy air targets - 2 planes, 3 helicopters, 3 UAVs and 4 cruise missiles.
Also, during the day, Ukrainian defenders destroyed several columns of equipment of the occupiers in Mykolayiv and Sumy regions, the losses of the enemy are currently being clarified. In addition, as a result of fire on the enemy by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the commander of the 8th All-Military Army of the Southern Military District of the Armed Forces of the russian federation, Lieutenant General Andrei Mordvichev, was killed.
Given that the enemy has suffered heavy casualties, it is likely that the military-political leadership of the russian federation will decide to amend existing legislation and begin open mobilization to continue a protracted, exhausting war. In order to justify such actions, it is possible that a number of provocations will be carried out on the territory of the russian federation with the death of civilians, as was done before the start of the second Chechen campaign. This will allow the pro-government leadership to decide on martial law and total mobilization of citizens.
The dead and wounded servicemen of the Armed Forces of the russian federation and the Rosguard continue to be transported from the territory of Ukraine. Thus, in the city of Gomel, all medical institutions with surgical departments are involved in the reception and treatment of wounded occupiers. Surgeons work around the clock, all planned operations of Belarusian citizens are either canceled or postponed indefinitely. A high death rate is recorded among the severely wounded russian invaders.
The enemy continues to suffer significant losses. It has problems with logistics of units. The low level of moral and psychological condition of the personnel leads to an increase in the number of cases of desertion and refusals of servicemen of the armed forces of the russian federation to take part in the war against Ukraine.
So, we believe in the Armed Forces of Ukraine! Let's win together! Glory to Ukraine!
